Murray, Jonathan

Ralph Jonathan “Jon” Murray (born 1986, Nassau, Bahamas) studied art at the College of The Bahamas from 2004 – 2005 and practiced for only three years before abruptly halting art production in 2007. During his short time as an artist Murray exhibited at several galleries in Nassau including The Central Bank Art Gallery—where he would received scholarship prize at the 2005 Annual Art Competition—, Popopstudios ICVA, and The Pro Gallery. He was also exhibited in the third National Exhibition at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas in 2006, at which time he was enrolled in a course in Arts Management at Parsons (The New School) in New York. 

Murray is now an arts administrator and entrepreneur; organizing exhibitions, projects, and programs. From 2007-2010, Murray acted as Exhibitions and Programming Director at the downtown gallery, The Hub. He has also worked with the Carifringe Festival and started Downtown Art Tours. In 2011, with support from The National Endowment for The Performing Arts of The Bahamas, Murray travelled back to New York to take part in the course Art Marketing and Communications at Sotheby’s Institute.  He continued his studies at Hunter College in New York where he majored in Art History, Theory and Criticism, German and Interdisciplinary Special Honors. To contribute towards educational expenses Murray developed an annual live-auction based sale titled, The Small Art Auction House. Murray is a freelancer for the VOLTA Art Fairs in both New York and Basel, Switzerland.
